South Cornwall – Our favourite Family friendly beaches

Last July we had THE most perfect break in South Cornwall. The weather was perfect,  it just took me back – you know how endless summer seemed as a kid with warm, sunny days, suncream sweaty sand hair, tanned arms and legs with freckles everywhere. This is just how it was. We had late night sunset chasing, fish and chips and rock pools galore. Here is a little round up of our new found family friendly favourite beaches in South Cornwall.

This was an unexpected gem of a find, literally the Caribbean in South Cornwall. A first visit for us all and it wont be the last! The sea was the most glorious tropical blue and crystal clear, whilst the sand was so soft and flowing underfoot. It helped that we had the most glorious of weather that day, the boys had their wet suits on and went in the gorgeous water. I will say it was quite a trek down to the beach as we had the pushchair, in hindsight next time we would leave this in the car, there was plenty of shade areas near the rocks and lots of room for a little beach camp set up. The beach is down either steps or a bank, its quite a jaunt back up but the beach is SO worth it. There is parking and toilet facilities at the top of the bank/steps. TR19 6JX

Crantock beach

The silkiest sand, so many dunes and rock pools grace you at Crantock. This is a NT beach with carpark so free parking if you are a trust member. Myself and Freddie went one evening chasing the sunset, im so glad we did too as not only did i get the shot i wanted but we also got to explore a beautiful beach that otheriwse we wouldnt have gone too! the beach itself is perfectly flat but there is a hill up to dunes to access the beach. Holywell bay

I had heard lots of good reports about Holywell bay before we stayed here at Trevonick, it reall did live up to expectation. Soft sand, a small ‘bach river’ as freddie called it, rock pools and perfect waves for jumping are all found here. This is also another NT parking beach so again trust members park for free. We went midday, on a beautiful day and still found it easy to park. There are icecream vendors on the car park (proper ice cream with a clotted cream top) and a pub down from the bay where we enjoyed a Doom Bar. TR8 5DD

Lusty Glaze

We went to Lusty Glaze for our nieces wedding and although it is quite difficult to access, it is a great venue to make a day of a visit. There are 133 down to the beach and they are steep. Its also a killer on the way back up but you do have a beautiful view to help ease the trek! There are some beach huts and a restaurant and bar. The food is absolutely divine and I can highly recommend the Moules frites! inside the bar the decor is really cosy, with a log burner should you need it but also beach themed interiors throughout. if you are thinking of a beach wedding then this really is a special place, it is kept private for you and your guests for the wedding, you can even have an after ceremony swim like we did and there is some spectacular accommodation. The wedding breakfast was also extra special with a BBQ theme to compliment the beach vibes, with an excellent range of vegetarian and vegan options too. TR7 3AE
